Reannon & Steve {Trailer | August 27, 2011 | Indianapolis, IN}

We’ve all made big life decisions. But, not all of us can say that that big decision was moving half-way across the country. Seven years ago, Steve pulled up his Pacific Northwestern roots and moved from Washington state to Indianapolis, IN. Little did he know that he’d meet the love of his life, right in the heart of the midwest. Meet Reannon. She’s easygoing, has a contagious smile, and there’s something about her personality that invites authenticity and companionship, which we think is pretty cool. Spending just a few minutes around Reannon gave us a snapshot of what drew Steve to her in the beginning of their relationship. You go, girl!

We felt blessed to come alongside this couple to film their wedding day. We started our morning with Reannon and her gals at the amazing Aveda Frederic’s Institute up north in Castleton, then around lunchtime popped downtown to the JW Marriott, where Steve and his guys were getting ready. It was the perfect stop on our way to the Indy Zoo, because the towering JW looked out over the gardens and river house at the zoo, where Reannon & Steve’s ceremony and reception were held. It was the perfect time of year for an outside wedding and were happy for these two that the day was just gorgeous.

Did we mention yet that there was an elephant that made a guest appearance during the festivities?! Yep, an elephant. We heard a rumor that this big guy shows up in their Feature Film. But more on that later…

It was our first time working alongside Jenna Davis Photography, and loved shooting with them! Psst – you should pop over to her website and take a peek at the stills of Reannon & Steve in the zoo’s gardens. Wow.

Congrats Reannon & Steve, we loved filming for you!

Vesna & RJ {Trailer | June 11, 2011 | Carmel, IN}

Vensa & RJ are deeply in love.

We had a unique opportunity to film the wedding day of this couple in the heart of Indiana, in the heart of summertime.

We started the morning off with Vesna & her gals in the shoppes of Zionsville’s cobblestoned streets. Then, we landed in Carmel around midday to hang out with RJ and a few of his groomsmen “lace-’em up.” Except this time, RJ traded in his Case Western blues and roughed-up soccer cleats for Vesna’s lilac and some new, shiny blacks. Their wedding was at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Christian Church and reception was at the Mansion at Oak Hill, two beautiful venues.

Vesna has a natural, sweet, Serbian spirit – one seasoned with virtue waaay beyond her years. RJ is a well-spoken gentleman who cherishes his bride, and compliments Vesna perfectly. He bleeds authenticity, listens well, is a servant-leader, and relentlessly pursues love and peace in all areas of his life. Both are surrounded with close-knit relationships and because of all of these things, spending time with their family and friends was truly a blessing! At one point during their toasts (stay tuned for their Feature Film to catch some of this action!), I was nearly in tears while filming, it was that heartfelt. How fun is it to work with two people who love each other so well!

Here is the Trailer to Vesna & RJ’s Feature Film, which is coming soon!

It was a pleasure working with so many talented wedding professionals, and we encourage you to check out their work.

Portraits by Nicole {Promo | Sneak Peek | Indiana & Ohio Photographer | 2011}

Recently, Jess and I had the privilege of having Nicole Moorehead of Portraits by Nicole come out to my parent’s 12 acre plot of farmland (where I grew up) for a family photo session. She shoots weddings, but we like her photography so much that we just had to have her shoot our family for the upcoming holiday season. We were hoping to get this in before the trees were bare and thankfully she was able to fit us into her busy schedule before the frost started biting! We had a blast hanging out with Nicole because she’s one of those down-to-earth kinda people, she’s super creative, is great with kids, and has an eye for playful, nostalgic detail!

I wanted to roll a little film for the kids so I grabbed my camera, a few lenses, and my Glidecam and played around a bit while she was taking stills of our children Evelyn and Gray. Well, I had the perfect excuse to be doing some shooting of my own – because we’re in the process of producing a promo for Portraits by Nicole! So, we thought we’d share a little sneak peek for what’s to come. We’re looking forward to collaborating with such a talented photographer, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out her recent work on Facebook. It’s not a coincidence she has over 2,500 fans! Oh, and did we mention she shot the cover of the fall issue of Wedding Day magazine? It just so happened to be the same issue that Wedding Day featured our article on “Videography vs. Cinematography” – we’re thinking Thread & Film and Portraits by Nicole was a match made in heaven!

Veils & Vows + Brides a la Mode | Big Dream Giveaway {Promo | Granger, IN | 2011}

This past summer, we participated Big Dream Giveaway in a bridal event in the Michiana area, organized by Veils & Vows magazine, a unique bridal publication designed specifically for brides in the South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, and Valparaiso regions of Indiana. This was the first year for the event and not only was the weather beautiful, but it was well-attended and was extremely fun. Hosted by Brides a la Mode, a bridal boutique in Granger, IN, over 30 brides won $15,000+ in giveaways. Talk about a lot of excited couples!

Thread & Film had the opportunity to film and edit a small promo for the event. So, here she is!

Matthew Christopher {Couture Wedding Gown Designer | New York, NY}

Matthew Christopher is CEO, Chief Designer, and Creative Director for Matthew Christopher Inc., a bridal fashion house and manufacturer with headquarters in New York City and in Iowa. His gowns are currently available in more than 70 boutiques and are regularly featured in publications such as Martha Stewart Weddings, The Knot, and Modern Bride.

With an emphasis on precise fit and construction, the design of Matthew Christopher’s dresses are represented by modern elegance combined with classic glamour. In an industry flooded with brands that are drowned out by a cluttered marketplace, the unique and creative approach of Matthew Christopher’s brand has easily set him a part from the other wedding gown designers. He is known for his non-traditional advertising campaigns, and he makes appearances in each of his own ads, which are always themed. His line of wedding gowns and unique brand has brought remarkable creativity to the bridal industry.

The Bride to Be was the first boutique in Indiana to carry wedding gowns designed by Matthew Christopher. Last week, The Bride to Be hosted a Matthew Christopher Trunk Show. Thread & Film had the privilege of spending some time at the The Bride to Be during the show to do some filming with Matthew as he assisted the owners in helping brides from the Fort Wayne area find the perfect dress! Thanks to John Burkett from John Burkett Photo for helping us film. We had fun hanging out at the boutique!

The Bride to Be is the only boutique in Indiana that carries the Matthew Christopher line. If you haven’t found your wedding dress yet, you should stop by this boutique and check out the styles by this amazing designer!

The Bride to Be {A Bridal Boutique | Fort Wayne, IN}

Over the past few months, we’ve had a lot of fun collaborating with the amazing gals at The Bride to Be, a bridal boutique in Fort Wayne, IN. We can’t help but share how lovely our experience has been with them! Their space rests cozily on Broadway’s curve just south of downtown and is absolutely gorgeous, both inside and out. Before shooting, we discussed various ways to feature their product and decided we should go big and bold. Once we started filming we got right to it – filling the entire frame with shot after shot of lush, beautiful bridal textures!

We certainly don’t think it’s too much…but we’d love to hear what you think too. So, if you’re an existing or potential customer, a “Bride to Be bride” from the past, another wedding professional, or simply just a fan of the boutique – please comment below!

The professionals at The Bride to Be have several years of experience in the wedding industry, are relationally driven, extremely knowledgable about the product and service they offer, inspired by designers from all over the world, very passionate about their brides, and we highly recommend them! Did you know that they carry lines/collections that are only available in select parts of the country? We think it’s pretty cool that they’re right here in Fort Wayne! In fact, this coming weekend celebrity designer Matthew Christopher himself is flying in from New York City for the debut of his bridal line in Indiana during the Matthew Christopher Trunk Show at The Bride to Be! If you’re still looking for a wedding dress, this is an exclusive event you shouldn’t miss!

Now, are you ready to see some dresses?

We hope you enjoy watching these two pieces that we’ve filmed and edited for The Bride to Be!

Film for a New July {Wedding Party Introductions | Fort Wayne, IN}

Jessica and I tied the knot on July 16, 2005.

It’s always fun to reminisce about big, life-changing moments – especially about something as big as a wedding day! Well, in honor of our 6 year anniversary, we thought it would be fun to dust off the shelves and take a quick moment to share one of Jessica and I’s favorite memories from our wedding day while highlighting one of Thread & Film’s 12 exclusive offers

Wedding Party Introductions

The most creative and unique way to introduce, celebrate, and thank your wedding party.
In preparation for our own wedding day, we spent a considerable amount of time creating a series of short films created for use at our rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, and reception (collectively known as Film for a New July). At the heart of this collection were Wedding Party Introductions.

Understanding the value of friendship, intentionality, and gratitude, we had a deep desire to introduce, celebrate, and thank our wedding party (our closest family and friends!) in a unique, meaningful way – a way that no other wedding party had ever been introduced before. The idea was to create short films for each of them, so we talked through several approaches to tackling the idea. Eventually, we landed on one and decided to go for it…and we are so glad we did! By using film for our Wedding Party Introductions, we were able to provide more of an intimate context for our guests as to why these individuals were near-and-dear to our hearts, hand-picked carefully, and how their relationship had (and would) influence our lives forever. In retrospect, had we decided to do our Wedding Party Introductions any other way, none of these things would have been possible.

Redefine the meaning of “the ultimate gift” at your rehearsal dinner.
After working behind the scenes for months (writing, revising, and recording voiceovers, transferring VHS tapes to digital, scanning old photos, filming, selecting just the right music, and stitching these various threads together during the editing process), the evening of our rehearsal dinner finally came. That night, it was with great joy that we revealed Film For a New July to our family and friends, presenting individualized DVD copies (with full print artwork) as gifts for each member of our wedding party.

The perfect start of the perfect party.
At the outset of our reception, our wedding party made a debut in vogue style as each respective short film rolled on the big screen in the background. Tears welled up in slight, smiles unwound in abundance, and applause filled a room full of pleasantly surprised, thoroughly engaged guests. Threaded with humor and nostalgia, we thought it was the perfect start of the perfect party…and based on the reactions of our guests, they thought so too.

Surprised, engaged guests. More than just icing on the cake.
Like nearly every other couple who plans something unique for their wedding party introductions, we were always thinking in the back of our minds how our guests might respond to our chosen format. After the fact, it turned out that one of the most exciting things about using film for our Wedding Party Introductions happened to be the reaction of our guests. We can’t tell you how many of our guests commented on how much they loved these short films, how unique they were, and how they created a memorable, intimate dynamic that they’ve never experienced before at a wedding reception. The reactions were both encouraging and humbling to hear!

A rewarding investment today. An unforgettable experience tomorrow.
After 6 years of marriage, it’s no surprise that our Wedding Party Introductions are easily one of Jessica and I’s favorite memories from our wedding day. The process of creating and sharing these short films with our wedding party and guests has been an exciting, rewarding, and unforgettable experience. We consider it a privilege and blessing to have such authentic, rich relationships with those who stood with us on our wedding day. We’re also grateful to have had the opportunity to share these relationships with our guests during our wedding reception. But now 6 years later, perhaps the blessing in disguise has been revealed with the arrival of our two children, Evelyn (3 yrs.) and Gray (1 yr.). They will have this set of short films to keep as an heirloom for years and years to come (and hopefully someday they’ll pass these down to their own children).

You should see Evelyn’s eyes light up after an invitation to watch Wedding Party Introductions. She just loves watching imagery of her aunts, uncles, and parents’ friends set to music…with the familiar voice of “mommy” and “daddy” in the background. It’s like she’s swept off into another world. As parents, stuff like this is fun to see of course, and we’re excited to share these films with Gray once he gets a little older.

If you’re considering using film as the format for your wedding party introductions, we encourage you to watch the above film in its entirety and contact us if you are interested in learning more. For us, our Wedding Party Introductions are priceless and this Extra could be a valuable investment with a huge return for you, as well.

Note
We thought it would be more convenient to view all 10 Wedding Party Introduction short films as a whole, instead of posting each one individually. So, we’ve combined them into one 19 minute film (posted above). As a heads up, the quality is a bit behind the times (technology has come a long way since 2005!) and the resolution isn’t super sharp (a melting pot of old VHS material + scanned photos + yesterday’s Standard Definition hardly compares to the crisp, clean resolution of today’s High Definition footage). Also, if you’re up for watching it all the way through (which we recommend – each short film has its own personality!), feel free to stop after you see “Mr. and Mrs. Gensic” fade out around 17:45 where the music continues without imagery…at that point all eyes were on Jess and I as we danced our way through a crowded Fort Wayne Woman’s Club…as newlyweds!

Thanks for taking a trip down memory lane with us and we hope you enjoy our Wedding Party Introductions!

Debbie & Andy {Trailer | Fort Wayne, IN}

If the “practically perfect in every way” Mary Poppins ever married the “hard-workin’, chim-chimminey gentleman of gentlemans” Bert, you’d have the modern-day Debbie & Andy. Well, of course there’d be some differences. If Mary is looking after two children and singing magical songs…and if Bert is off drawing make-believe countryside homes with sidewalk chalk and busy sweeping rooftops…well then Debbie is teaching an entire classroom of kids and gracing the keys of a grand piano while Andy is actually building a home with his bare hands and busy “sweeping the series” with his amazing baseball skills (he’s quite the athlete). Speaking of baseball, have you heard the news? Carroll High School (where Andy played and now coaches) just won the 2011 Class 4A Indiana State Championship…for the 2nd year in a row! A respectful nod to the Chargers – and a much, much bigger congrats to Debbie & Andy!

Working with this couple has been a lot of fun. Recently, as we were finalizing their wedding films during their Edit Session, we stumbled across this funny clip of their flower girl, Cora. She was right in the mix with everybody, yet off in her own little world, making all sorts of hilarious faces. As we previewed the footage, Debbie threw out the idea of using it as the opening shot of the Trailer for their Feature Film and so we pulled it into the timeline to see how it would work. Well, the personality in Cora’s cute little expressions quickly gave life to the first few measures of the Trailer’s soundtrack, which happened to be a traditional Greek song that Debbie & Andy’s families actually danced to at their reception. We agreed it was a perfect way to introduce such a dynamic couple!

Enjoy!
